1. One reason that Autistic individuals are at a greater risk for suicidal ideation is that they can be taught that they need to consistently mask which can be exhausting.  I have seen Autistic individuals come home from school after masking all day and emotional melt down.  If they do not have a supportive family to allow them the opportunity to express their emotions and/or have a safe space to completely be themselves that would be mentally challenging.
  2. If I suspected an individual was having suicidal thoughts, I would clear my schedule and find a safe place to speak with them.  I would directly ask if they are suicidal and if so, I would ask if they had a plan.  Following that, I would determine the level of immediacy for support and direct them appropriately.
