If other service providers and caregivers want to implement a non evidence based intervention, I would first conduct a literature review and consult with colleagues to gather any existing information about the intervention. A behavior analyst is not always able to decide which interventions are implemented or not when on a multidisciplinary team of professionals, so as long as the intervention doesn’t cause harm, I would then obtain written permission to evaluate the intervention and communicate data/findings to the team. Through the use of a defined target behavior, data collection, and the use of experimental designs, a non evidence based intervention can be evaluated in a behavior analytic way.
