Student typically starts looking away from materials and teacher, saying “no” when given demands and/or talking about non-contextual things

  1. Tangible condition: giving student access to a preferred activity while seated at instructional setting
  2. Escape condition: allowing student 30s break without presenting demands or asking questions, allowing them to walk around the room or saying “ok let me do this one for you, you can do the next one
  3. Attention condition: when student engages in target behaviour, asking them why, what’s wrong or negotiating with the task
  4. Control: frequent breaks, frequent access to tangibles, consistent teacher attention
